It's that Ritual time of year again. . .Winter Solstice. The Former Nun part of my soul needs a bit of a ceremony now and again, and Soltice provides the opportunity. All it takes is a little bowl of Sage for smudging; a drum; enough candles for the group to light at the darkest moment and ta-DAH. . .let the cermonies begin.
Nine wonderful wimmen brought themselves and potluck dishes to share to our house last night. Once we'd had our fill of the delicious food and caught up on the latest gossip, we moved into the main room for our ritual. My favorite is always the few moments of time we spend in total darkness, when ponder the feeling of being "in the womb". We ponder what it is we want to bring to the light. Then, as each feels lead, we light our candle and set on the central altar. Then there's a bit of drumming, a chant or two and the passing of the stick to complete the ritual. Though simple, the symbolism is profound.
A sort of sacredness takes over the room of the turning of another year away from the darkness and towards light once again. A taste of what it's like to be an empowered woman. A priestess. A divine being.
And so be it.
