When death takes someone from our county, news travels quickly through the country grapevine. Plus a notice is always posted on the post office door. None of us expected John DeMoss would be next. Or that he would go so quickly. He was only sixty-one and died after barely six weeks of having been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. He hardly had time to say goodbye.
I didn’t know him personally, but his wife is my friend. Therefore, it felt a bit strange that I felt John’s presence as I made trip to The Dalles the other day. He seemed to be reminding me to help Carolyn during this time. From being a woman with a newly rich husband (the central figure in bringing Wind Energy to our county the past few years) to now being without. A woman now learning to deal with the Presence of Absence. With Loss.
As if to reassure the grieving populace, we awoke this morning to a world in white. Snow . . . softening and transforming the land. A reminder of impermanance. Of the fact that everything is in transition, and has its season. Even us.

A lovely sentiment. Your talent with words is as beautiful as your talent with art. Carolyn is lucky to have you as her friend.
