Jan and I are taking her parents and aunt and uncle to an "outing" today for Greek Food. Around here, the minimum distance between us and a decent meal out is 18 to 40 miles. Today, we're heading for St. John's Monastery, ten miles north of Goldendale. We discovered it last year en route to our doll conference. It's an actual Greek Orthodox Monestery, run by nuns who live in a secluded buildings beyond the highway, welcome travelers in their gift shop/bakery/coffee shop along the roadside. Their Greek food is to notch and mostly takeout, but there are a few small tables and chairs in the gift shop, if you want to eat there. They also cater to large groups. It's a unique experience to be waited on by young nuns in full black garb (again). A flashbacks to the days when I wore the long black habit too. Here's their website: http://stjohnmonastery.or/
Yesterday was Cats-to-the-Vet day. Traumatic, as always. We had to interrupt the Sacred Schedule. Two of them needed their annual vaccinations, plus Missy had to have her teeth cleaned. She's nine years old and the Vet said it was past time. So she screamed and complained the entire 49 mile distance to town in the morning. I dropped her off and returned home, since she needed to stay the day to make sure the drug wore off properly. Then Jan took Buster (our three year old) for his annual shots in the afternoon, where she then also picked up Missy. The household was in an uproar from dawn to the return home last night. Since we had to keep Missy from eating the previous night and yesterday morning, it affected everyone's eating routine. All three of them got us up at three in the morning, demanding food and suspicious of what we were "up to", which should sound to familiar to all cat lovers.
Today is blessedly normal again. Sometimes I wonder how anyone survives three cats!
