Day Seven
Day seven of Jan’s captivity in the hospital. I’ve gone to sit by her side, bathe her and keep her company for all but one of those days. Yesterday. . . I couldn’t stomach being there. Too depressing to watch her in misery. Today she was much better and thinks she may even see life on the “outside” again. Perhaps by Sunday, the doctor reported. By then, she’ll have begun eating solid foods and be off her IV. She’ll also have to have her stitches (actually, they’re huge staples that vertically line the entire lower abdomen. All of this has been a lesson in trust. Trust in the fact that Jan either will or will not get well. Trust in my own ability to go with the flow. No matter which way she goes.
